Features: Poem

Hey y'all!

As you can read below, our church camp just ended and many were moved by the experience. Anyway, one of those impacted by it was a youth member and she wrote a poem from it. Although simple, the words moved me and I would like to share it here with you all (yes, I have asked for her permission =D )

Here it is: -

I Need You, O Lord

Release me, O Lord,
From the sins of this world,
Let me in your fortress,
May Your power upon me be hurled

Speak to me, O Lord,
I yearn for Your voice,
Your words are like water,
With them I live, I rejoice.

Touch me, O Lord,
With Your everlasting love,
To the end of my days,
It's You I want to serve.

Fill me, O Lord,
With Your wondrous Spirit,
Lead me and guide me,
Day by day, bit by bit.

Overpower me, O Lord,
With your endless grace,
Against the Evil one,
Help me win this race.

I need You, O Lord,
Bestow your favour,
Reign in my life,
Forever and ever.

Fear God

My church just finished our Church camp on Sunday. It was an incredible experience. There were many who personally encountered God and others who were challenged to rise up to the occasion. I personally was one of those who were challenged but at the same time received affirmation of the decisions that I'm making. As for the details, I would rather keep them to myself for now as I continue to seek God with my direction in life. But one thing that I want to share on is the theme of the camp which is "Fear God".

I was reading my daily devotion book and (yes, I'm still in the book of Job) came upon the passage that amazingly talks about the greatness of God and how he is to be revered! Many times we the human race forgets that God is Almighty and Powerful. That He is the Supreme God that created us and can destroy nations if need be (Think about earthquakes, tsunamis, tornadoes, hurricanes, etc.). Yes, don't get me wrong. God IS our friend, our Father, and loves us dearly but many forget that God is also the ALL Powerful God that reigns from the heavens above.

Here is the passage from Job that is so appropriately fitted into the theme of the camp.

"Listen! Listen to the roar of his voice,
to the rumbling that comes from his mouth.
He unleashes his lightning beneath the whole heaven
and sends it to the ends of the earth.
After that comes the sound of his roar;
he thunders with his majestic voice.
When his voice resounds,
he holds nothing back.
God's voice thunders in marvelous ways;
he does great things beyond out understanding.
He says to the snow, 'Fall on the earth,'
and to the rain shower, 'Be a mighty downpour.'
So that all men he has made may know his work,
he stops every man from his labor.
The animal take cover;
they remain in their dens.
The tempest comes out from its chamber,
the cold from the driving winds.
The breath of God produces ice,
and the broad waters become frozen.
He loads the clouds with moisture;
he scatters his lightning through them.
At his direction they swirl around
over the face of the whole wrath
to do whatever he commands them.
He brings the clouds to punish men,
or to water his earth and show his love.

Great indeed is the Lord. Amen.

Broadway: Run Away with me

Sometimes I run across random videos or songs that I really like and here is one of them. The song is titled; "Run Away with me"  and is sung by Aaron Tveit. Enjoy!!

This guy singing actually guest starred in Ugly Betty season 4. Never thought then that he could sing so well. And also, after reading his biodata, he actually auditioned for the part of Finn on Glee.. Not bad... :)

Alright.. enough from me for now,

Ciao.

The most typical face on the planet

I thought this to be quite interesting :).. Have a great read y'all!

From National Geographic:

In a world of 7 billion people
who is the most typical?
the world's most typical person
is right handed
makes less than $12,000 a year
has a cell phone
but not a bank account (less than 25% of us do)
so what does he look like?
The world's most typical person is male
males outnumber females (but just barely)
the median age of the world's population is 28
the largest ethnic group is han chinese
based on these traits
the
most
typical
person
is
a 28 year old han chinese man
there are over 9,000,000 of them
researches averaged 190,000 of their photos
to create a composite image

Ah... but he won't be typical for long!
by 2030, that person will come from India!!

Haha!! Quite interesting eh! there is actually more to the video feed on the website which I've linked to the title. If you have time, have a go at it.

That's all for now!

Ciao.

p.s.: Here's to us and out individualities! Cheers!

My Redeemer Lives

Am doing a devotion series that currently covers the book of Job and was struck by this passage:

"Oh, that my words were recorded,
that they were written on a scroll,
that they were inscribed with an iron tool on lead,
or engraved in rock forever!
I know that my Redeemer lives,
and that in the end he will stand upon the earth.
And after my skin has been destroyed,
yet in my flesh I will see God;
I myself will see him
with my own eyes - I, and not another.
How my heart yearns within me!"

Job 19 : 23 - 27

How amazing to read the poetic scriptures as said aloud by Job! That thousands of years before the coming of Jesus as the Messiah, Job already foresaw it and declared of the Redeemer that lives, who is also our witness and advocate in heaven, and who is our intercessor where "on behalf of a man he pleads with God as a man pleads for his friend.(Job 16 : 21)" Amazing.....

Reading this passage reminded me of a song by Eugene Greco (made famous by Marty Nystrom):

My Redeemer lives,
and I will see his glory
as he works all things together for my good -
whatever things occur, of this I can be sure:
I know my Redeemer lives.

Even though I walk through the valley,
I will fear no evil,
he is with me;
and on the battlefield, although the pain is real,
my struggles soon will fade
as his glory is revealed.

Here's a video of the song (not original). Its not the best version of it but its the only one I could find in Youtube.

And while we're on the topic of My Redeemer Lives, here's another song with the same title sung by Nicole C. Mullen. The song is "attached" to an inspirational video of the famous father son team called Team Hoyt. Very inspiring indeed...

That's all from me for now.

Ciao.

p.s.: Here's to those who are reading the book of Job (and have read it before...) Cheers!

To my future daughter...

Photo sourced from here

I joined an abstinence course a few years back and one of the activities that they made us do is to write a letter to our unborn child.

So I decided to write to my future daughter :) I came across the letter that I wrote tucked in my desk drawer while cleaning it and wanted to share it with you all.. So here it is:

My dear daughter,

I am now at a time in life where I'm being challenged to hold on to the truth. The truth of my values and beliefs as a woman. My dear girl, the truth of the matter is that you are more precious than you can ever imagine. The fact that you exist shows how important you are.
As you now begin to embark on a journey of discovering who you are, let me tell you that when it comes to the matters of love, waiting for the right person is the best. Just as your grandmother waited for your grandfather and I, now waiting,  for your father, I pray that you too will wait patiently for God to provide you your love.
Be wise too when in a relationship. Save yourself for your marriage. The first time should be the most special, where you give your virginity to only one person. Your husband. Refuse all offers from men who do not respect you as a woman. Do not compromise your dignity but instead be proud of it.
Always know that I LOVE YOU. DEARLY. DEEPLY. WHOLLY.

Love,
Your mother.

That's all for now.

Ciao.

p.s.: Here's to my future child, I love you. And to my future husband, I'll be waiting ;)

Of little things in life..

:)

That emoticon pretty much sums up my day.

Today, I was witness to the power of friendship and love. A big statement for sure.. and bound to pound on the curiosity of the reader I bet *wink*

But the act to that claim was something simply.. ORDINARY.. yet to see it happen is RARE..

I was on the way to prepare for class today (Biology Lab to be exact) when I saw these group of students from 4S3 at the other end of the lab building. They were a group of girls waiting at the ground floor end of the stairs. The girls were surrounding their wheelchair bound friend and were waiting for the boys in their class to arrive.

The girl in the wheelchair was all smiles knowing that she had friends around her. She chit-chatted with them and I notice that the friends were carrying the girl's books for her.

Finally the boys arrived (more like an army of boys.. hehe) and the girls went on ahead to the lab while now the group of boys surrounded her at all sides. AND as if it was so effortless, they carried her up the stairs (while she was still in the wheelchair!!) working together as a team. The boys who weren't carrying her directly formed a "cushion barrier" behind as support and in about one minute, they finished the task of carrying her to the lab.

Not once during that whole time did I see any one of them complain or show sour/long faces. My heart was deeply touched and at that moment I was so proud to be their teacher.

******

It so amazing how the good Lord shows me little gestures in life and remind me of the hope there is in a friendship.

Who says little things in life don't count?? :')

"Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever." ~Psalm 136:1~

Ciao.

Life's Short...

Last year, my school was shaken with the demise of 2 of our students. One in Form 5 and one in Form 4. As to how they passed on, I choose not to dwell and respect their families.

Why bring up the past when clearly its time to move on in this new year?

Today, on the birthday of my late father, my school is once again rocked with the news of one of my student in the I.C.U... A very sudden event that leaves students stunned to silence while others heartbroken. All this is evident on her facebook page. On Friday, the girl was fine and still her jovial self. She even met with  the principal to ask for a change in class. But over the weekend she contracted an infection in the brain and went into high fever. Her family brought her immediately to the hospital and went in for brain surgery. So far there is slight hope, as news of her although still unconscious, is responding slightly. The next few days are really critical as to whether she makes a full recovery or remains brain damaged.

Hope is always there because God is the God of miracles. (Lord, please remember the prayers of all those who are praying for her.)

Lena, here's to you. I pray that the Lord Almighty will heal you and you'll get well and live a long life ahead of you. One that is bright and filled with joy!!

Ciao.

Nothing other than best

I once watched an advertisement regarding a fashion reality show and the one line that got me was:-

"The biggest enemy of "BEST" is "GOOD"."

How true. The biggest enemy of 'best' is not 'worst' but 'good'... Just mediocre.. just enough to get by..

So the question now is; "Why settle for good when you can be the best??" When reflecting on this sentence in my life, many thoughts come through my head. Am I at my fullest potential now? Is this what I want to do for the rest of my life? 32 more years to retirement.. is this what I want to settle for??

Going through THE induction course a few weeks back really made me think properly. Do I see myself staying in school teaching Biology for the rest of my career?? Don't get me wrong. I LOVE teaching.. Let me stress it again. L.O.V.E. Teaching

Its just that for those of you who have known me my whole life, my passion is in music.. In the arts.. I get by in science subjects achieving pleasing results when I need to. Basically just being 'good' in it. But when anything music comes up or even in any form of art (theater, musical, poetry, painting, sculpting, dancing, etc.) I believe the right expression to use is "shine".

Yes. I shine. I feel my eyes light up when I scan through music sheets. When I attend the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) I close my eyes and imagine myself dancing along with the notes of the music. I hear the rise and fall of the piece, the pain and joy of the composer, the anger and peace of the music. And when I'm in the arts, I'm at my BEST. Its my passion.

So where does this leave me?

Do I;

- stay on for 32 years teaching Biology. Getting by with being GOOD and slightly above average in life?
OR
- chase my dream, take the plunge, and be the BEST I can ever be, reaching my fullest potential?

Yes, the choice is mine. BUT, do I have the guts to go beyond settling with what I have? Do I go for nothing other than BEST??

Lord, I need your wisdom now more than ever.

Ciao.

p.s.: Here's to those who are at their fullest potential. Keep the fire burning!

p.p.s: Even if we do settle for good, does not mean we only give good. The best should always be given in all situations. Cheers!

The Future...

In this one week, no less then 3 people have asked me (talk about coincidence!!) about furthering my studies in Masters Degree. I've personally been avoiding this question hoping that I do not have to study anymore... (I kinda feel lazy..)

But I believe its the right step for me if I were to continue on in my career and develop myself. Question now is..

WHERE??
WHEN??
WHAT??

Argh... Have been searching high and low for courses through the net... Some that spark interest. Others that just makes me want to think twice about what I'm doing...

At the crossroads here... Really do not know what and how..

Lord, give me wisdom.

Ciao.
